GROSSE ILE VOLUNTEER

              EFFORT

GIVE is a program of the Grosse Ile Township Schools which provides volunteer services to the staff and students.

Mission Statement

The goal of GIVE is to involve the community in

ensuring that every student has the opportunity to

achieve intellectual, physical, social and emotional

 growth.

How GIVE works

GIVE is a program that utilizes parent and community

volunteers in our schools.  Any person volunteering in

the schools must be a GIVE Volunteer which means

that they have submitted a Background Screen Form

(police clearance) and that they have also viewed a

 GIVE orientation.

GIVE Committee members in each of the schools help

to facilitate the GIVE program by matching  volunteer

requests from the staff with the parent and community

GIVE Volunteer database.

GIVE Volunteer opportunities are usually communicated

via purple GIVE notes that are sent home in backpacks,

GIVE newsletters, and on GIVE bulletin boards  in

some of the schools.

After signing up for any particular GIVE Volunteer

assignment, a GIVE Committee Member will contact

the volunteer for confirmation and any further instructions.

Background Screen Form

In order to provide an additional layer of security for our students, volunteers, and staff, GIVE will require yearly Background Screening for each volunteer from the Michigan State Police.  The screening information will be received and reviewed by a School Administrative Representative.  In the event a volunteer’s screening reveals a conviction record in the areas of: assault and battery of a minor or mentally handicapped person, criminal sexual conduct in all degrees involving a minor, kidnapping of a minor, distribution and trafficking of controlled substances, or intent to commit any of these crimes, the volunteer will be notified of immediate suspension and may request a hearing with the GIVE legal counsel.  The volunteer may be reinstated contingent on the outcome of the hearing.

Any volunteer who refuses to provide information necessary for the background screening, will be excluded from participation in the GIVE program.

If any volunteer commits an applicable crime after they have had police clearance, it is their responsibility to contact the School Administrative Representative to have their name discretely removed voluntarily from the GIVE database list.  GIVE database lists are posted in all of the schools and  accessible to staff as well as community members.

Background Screen forms may be downloaded on line but must be submitted through any of the school offices for processing. Please submit in a sealed envelope labeled “GIVE Background Screen.”
