Middle School Curriculum

Grosse Ile Township Schools recognizes that Middle School is a transitional time in young peoples' lives when they are beginning to discover their own voices.  We also realize that success in this segment of the educational journey, both in academics and in character building, is playing an increasingly important role.  To this end, Grosse Ile Middle School has crafted several unique systems that support academic success, provides for close home/school communication and nurtures the 21st Century Learning Skills that all individuals must possess in order to be successful citizens.

Academics

By viewing the PDF Document2009 MEAP Report , you can easily see that Grosse Ile Middle School consistently performs at levels above both State and local standards.  While proud of these academic accomplishments, we know we must continue to grow a robust learning environment for Grosse Ile students at this early adolescent stage.

To assure a tight connection between middle school instruction and high school expectations, our core content area teachers in Math, Science, Social Studies and English have formed academic departments based on a grades 6-12 configuration.  All curriculum in the Grosse Ile district is tightly aligned to the State of Michigan Standards and Benchmarks.

The website for the Michigan Department of Education is http://www.Michigan.gov/mde.  Please refer to "Navigating the GLCEs" in the column to your right under Academic Links for information on how to navigate this website.

The Home and School Connection

To assure that parents are able to have insight into their young students assignments, upcoming quizzes and tests and other general information, our Middle School has made posting homework and other information a priority.  Parents and students at the Middle School can now access homework online by clicking on the button title "Click for Homework".  The homework button is located on the Middle School's homepage

ParentConnect is a tool that allows parents to stay up to date on their children's progress.  At the Middle and High School levels parents/guardians are able to log into the password-protected site to view their students' schedules, grades, assignments, attendance, test results, and course history.  Visit the parent's section of the website to find out more about ParentConnect.

Studenting Skills

Studenting Skills, also known as 21st Century Learning Skills, is a developing focus.  As you will note, one of the goals for learning at the Middle School this year is "Caring is Cool."  This caring includes not only caring for others but about caring for one's own sense of responsibility, accountability, and pride in one's own accomplishments.
