GIHS Advanced Placement English 12: Literature and Composition

Welcome!

Welcome to the Grosse Ile High School Advanced Placement English 12 web site. This is a site meant to aid students by providing links to descriptions of the course and its students, the assignments, course expectations, and related material of interest. Students and parents ar strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with this site and its contents, and to use it as a reference in the course of the school year. In addition, a link above leads to the GIHS AP Mailing List, a Yahoo Groups discussion list on which students may communicate with each other, with their teacher, and also with alumni of the AP Englsh and AP Humanities courses at Grosse Ile High School. Visitors to this page and others are cordially reminded that the District's policies for internet use are in effect here in regard to all behavior and communications related to this site.

Update: August 21, 2006

Welcome! This is the first working draft of the new AP English resource site. Thanks to the generosity and hard work of our District LAN Technician, Mrs. Denise Libkie, we now have a presence on the web and a place to turn for information and additional, supplementary sources related to the material of the course. Keep posted for updates and fresh links to internet resources. Please report any glitches or broken links (but not pages under construction!) to Mr. Loselle.

A Friendly Reminder

Students who have been accepted into AP English 12 must complete a summer reading assignment by the start of school. An assessment will be administered during the first days of the school year, and an in-depth discussion will follow. Students who have not shown that they understand the material of the summer assignment will be required to drop AP English and select another course.

How He Spent His Summer Vacation

Mr. Loselle spent six weeks of this year's very long summer vacation teaching at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Located just south of Traverse City, Michigan, IAC is the oldest, largest and most famous summer arts program in the country, drawing students and instructors from around the world to study music, visual art, dance, drama and creative writing. Your teacher was once a high school student there (yes, he was once in high school!), and has spent 15 years on the IAC staff, all told. Several GIHS student have also attended the camp in recent years, and one even transferred to the Interlochen Arts Acaemy, the full-year high school there. If you are interested in learning more about Interlochen, please see Mr. Loselle.
