Mrs. Gianina Meli

Special Education

Gianina Meli graduated in 2002 from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts and an endorsement in Emotional Impairments. At Eastern, she was on the Dean's list. In 2006, she earned a Masters degree in Special Education and an endorsement in Learning Disabilities from the University of Michigan Dearborn. She graduated with first honors.

Mrs. Meli has taught in Grosse Ile for the past 9 years. She has been at the Middle School for 8 of those 9 years. Mrs. Meli has taught special education in many arenas such as co-teaching, self-contained, and teacher consulting.  She is a trainer for the special education consortium in Crisis Prevention Invervention (CPI). Mrs. Meli is part of the crisis team for Grosse Ile Schools. Mrs. Meli is also co-chairperson of our School Improvement Team and a member of the District School Improvement Team.  Also, Mrs. Meli is co-teacher-in-charge for the Middle School. She has also been a teacher chaperone 4 times on the Washington, D.C. trip. She has had 2 student teachers from Eastern Michigan University and a number of pre-student teachers.

Mrs. Meli is a firm believer in teaching in a way that all students can learn, keeping in mind what type of learner they are and how they learn best. Her favorite quote is, "Fair is not everyone getting the same thing. Fair is everyone getting what they need to be successful."
