Welcome everyone to Señora O'Reilly's Middle School Spanish Page. I am glad that you found our page and I hope you are excited to learn Spanish this year. Be prepared to work hard and be an active participant in class. If you stopped by our class last year, you may have seen us singing, performing a skit, writing stories, playing in Spanish or discussing our day in order to learn Spanish in a natural way. You can count on this class being a very active class with some quiet time for review and reflection. Please don't confuse active with effortless because you will be working hard always even when we are having fun. Remember, one of the best ways to learn a world language is to use the language and practice often.
If you are a parent visiting our site, you may be wondering how to best assist your child's learning in a world language. I believe that one of the best ways to help your child learn a world language is to support their learning at school and practice Spanish at home. Be sure to check Moodle daily for reviews and homework. Always ask your child about what they are learning in the classroom. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the program or your child's progress.

What makes teaching on Grosse Ile so special for Mrs. O'Reilly is that she is a graduate of Grosse Ile Township Schools and loves the community. After graduating in the top 10 from GIHS in 1994, she studied Spanish and International politics at Western Michigan University. While completing her undergraduate work, Mrs. O'Reilly had the opportunity to live and study in Venezuela and Mexico. After graduating from WMU's Honors College, she continued her studies earning a Masters of Arts in Teaching with a major in Second Language Education from Wayne State University
Mrs. O'Reilly has been teaching Spanish for over 11 years. She began teaching at Grosse Ile High School in 2000 and has been at the forefront of the initiative to extend the world language education to younger students. The dream was realized and the first year of a comprehensive 3-12 program was implemented in 2008. Last year, Mrs. O'Reilly taught Spanish to Parke Lane students in grades 3-5 and helped develop the curriculum for the elementary world language program. This year, my challenge is to continue to articulate and build the 3-12 language program and develop curriculum to meet the needs of our students and the goals of proficiency in Spanish.
Señora O has lived and traveled extensively in Latin America and Spain. She most enjoys visiting central Mexico with her family in the summer time. Mrs. O'Reilly is married with two beautiful children and a golden retriever running partner.
