Counseling Center

Overview

Students are encouraged to use this facility at any time to get assistance in solving their personal, social, educational, vocational, school, home or related problems. The guidance program has been established to assist each individual student with the adjustment to school work, school life and the community. Students who want to see their counselor may do so by making an appointment through the guidance and counseling office secretary.

The guidance office has career materials and post-secondary school catalogues which can be checked-out for student use. Specific career information may be obtained from a variety of programs on computers in the Counseling Office. Career inventories are available to help students select, explore and learn about occupations that reflect their personal goals. Information on post-secondary programs in Michigan as well as post-secondary schools, apprenticeships, military training and financial aid can also be obtained from these systems. Students may also access these programs in our career and computer labs.

Electronic Transcripts

To aid you in your college application process, Grosse Ile High School has teamed with Docufide by ParchmentTM to bring you a secure, paperless way to send transcripts directly to the colleges or universities to which you will be applying. It's safe, secure, easy and available 24/7.

Parchment will send out your official transcript, checked and approved by the GIHS Counseling Office, to the colleges you choose. Parchment will email you a confirmation that your transcript was sent. For colleges that accept electronic transcripts, Docufide confirms when the colleges receive the transcripts.

To create your personal account, please follow the steps below to register with Docufide and request transcripts:

Step 1: Go to www.parchment.com

Step 2: Click on "Sign On" in the upper right corner of page.

Step 3: Enter your email address and create a password. Then answer the "secret" questions. Click on "Save and Continue".

Step 4: Enter your personal information. Click on "Submit".

Step 5: You will get a Welcome Message telling you that you will receive an email from Parchment that contains a link to activate your Parchment account. When you open this email select continue to enter your new Parchment account.

Step 6: Now you request your transcript to your Parchment account. Search for your school and select "Grosse Ile High School." Fill in your enrollment information.

Step 7: Follow the instructions on the "Transcript Authorization Form". Your Parchment Registration Code is available in the Counseling Office. You do not need it to request transcripts; however, using it makes it easier to request them.

Step 8: You should now be at the Parchment Dashboard. Click on "My Transcripts" at top of page. On the top of the next page, click on "deliver". Select the correct "State" from the drop down box and type the name of the college/university. "Save and continue" or "Save and add another".

Step 9: (For Colleges that require the Common Application) If you are applying to colleges through the Common Application, please go to the "Common Application" tab to request a transcript. DO NOT request transcripts to be sent to the individual colleges. For example: The University of Michigan Ann Arbor uses the Common Application. You will not choose U of M Ann Arbor; rather you will go to the Common Application tab to request a transcript. The Common Application tab can be found after you click on "deliver". It is on the line that reads "Academic Destinations". If you are applying to one or more colleges using the Common Application, transcripts will be sent to all of them after you pay the one time processing fee. Currently the fee is $2.55 and payable using a credit card. Step 10: Your transcript will be checked and approved by the Counseling Office and sent out by Parchment. You will receive a confirmation that the transcript has been sent and received.

If you encounter any difficulties in this process, please see Mrs. Cowley or your Counselor in the Counseling Office.
