SCHOLARSHIPS


THE MEA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is offered through the Michigan Education Association. To be eligible, you must graduate from a Michigan public high school; will attend a Michigan public community/junior college, a four-year degree-granting institution or a vocation training institution. Those attending the following private institutions will also be eligible: Adrian College, Albion College, Bake College-Flint/Owosso, Davenport University-Eastern Region Campus, University of Detroit-Mercy, Finlandia University and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. Criteria is based on academic achievement; school/community service; extracurricular activities and all other criteria being equal, first consideration will be given to children of MEA members and students from lower income households.

Deadline: Postmarked no later than Friday, February 10, 2012. Applications are available in the Counseling Office


FIRST COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP

$500 scholarship offered to any high school senior in Wayne and Monroe counties in Southeast Michigan and Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties in Southwest Michigan.

Criteria:

  • Must be a member in good standing of First Community FCU with an account in his/her name
  • Must be accepted for enrollment in a college or trade school
  • Graduating high school senior
  • Community involvement
  • Essay

DETROIT ECONOMIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 Up to two $2,000 scholarships renewable for up to three years

Criteria:

  • Graduating high school seniors in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have overcome hardship to achieve personal and academic goals

ROBERT HOLMES SCHOLARSHIP

Up to six non-renewable $1,000 scholarships

Criteria:

  • Dependent high school seniors of eligible Michigan Teamsters
  • Must attend Michigan college or university

CHRIS KURZWEIL SCHOLARSHIP

Up to two $2,000 scholarships renewable for three years

PLANTE MORAN SONS AND DAUGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria:

  • Dependent children of eligible Plante Moran staff
  • Applicant must be under the age of 25
  • Support for undergraduate studies only

JEPTHA WADE SCHUREMAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This program targets students who are fatherless because of death or termination of parental rights before the age of 18. Applicants must be residents of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Lenawee, Monroe, Livingston, Washtenaw of St. Clair counties at the time of graduation.

Criteria:

  • Will pursue a major and career in nursing, law, dentistry or medicine
  • Demonstrates financial need and must attend one of the 15 public Michigan universities
  • Will award up to eight $7,500 scholarships

SOUTHERN WAYNE COUNTY REGIONAL CHAMBER SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria:

  • High school senior in one of the 21 service communities of the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber
  • Targets at-risk or vocational education students
  • Up to two renewable scholarships of $1,000

EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

The EMU Alumni Association offers a $1,250/per year scholarship for children and grandchildren of EMU alumni. Entering freshmen, sophomores and transfer students may apply. Demonstration of financial need is not required.

Criteria:
3.2 GPA or better
Complete application, current resume, 500 word essay
Letter of recommendation and official high school transcript
Must be sponsored by parent or grandparent who is an EMU alumni

Recipients must enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours) and must volunteer once each semester for the Office for Alumni Relations. The scholarship is automatically renewed provided the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better and is enrolled full-time.

THE AMERICAN LEGION DEPARTMENT OF MICHIGAN

The American Legion Department of Michigan has 7 different ways to earn a scholarship. Four of them are specifically for of veterans and three are open to all Michigan young men and women.

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

ABBOTT AND FENNER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants will be awarding $1,000 scholarships. Students will submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of their web site: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Full details of the scholarship are available on their site.


MICHIGAN COUNCIL OF WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATION (MCWT)

The MCWT is offering one high school senior, on undergraduate-level and one graduate-level college/university scholarship for women who are currently or will be enrolled in college/university-level courses for the 2012/2013 academic year.  The high school senior scholarship is worth $5,000 annually, and is renewable for up to three additional years. The undergraduate scholarship is worth $5,000 annually and renewable for up to two additionalyears


THE DETROIT SECTION OF THE SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS

The Society of Women Engineers annually recognizes and awards over $5,000 to high school females who have shown exemplary abilities in areas such as leadership, academics, and community activities and intend to pursue a college degree in engineering at a college or university with an ABET accredited engineering program. THE RUDY ANAYA LAW ENFORCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

The Wayne County Detective's Association offers a scholarship opportunity for graduating seniors interested in a career in Law Enforcement through the Wayne County Detectives Association. Applications are available in the counseling office. Completed applications must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2012.


THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CLUB OF GREATER DETROIT

The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit is sponsoring unique scholarship awards to ten outstanding freshmen applicants to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. By completing the scholarship application, students will be considered for the David J. Hallisey Memorial Scholarship, the Frederick C. Matthaei Scholarship, the James H. LoPrete Scholarship, the Harold duCharme Scholarship, the Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship and the President's Scholarships.

Applicants must meet one of these three criteria: a minimum ACT score of 31 or SAT score of 2100, or be in the top 1% of their graduating class. The completed application must be received by 5:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2012.

AAA MICHIGAN SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to two graduating seniors attending a Michigan public, private or charter high school. Students must show documented proof of AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol participation in elementary or middle school, good academic standing and a strong record of involvement in the community and/or extra curricular activities and what being a Safety Patroller meant to them. Applications are available in the counseling office. Deadline for submission is April 13, 2012.


KFC COLONEL'S SCHOLARS PROGRAM

KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel's scholarship. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must:

  • have a 2.75 minimum cumulative GPA
  • enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence
  • plan to pursue a bachelor's degree
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • demonstrate financial need.
