Students have opportunities to experience several areas of self-improvement and personal responsibility. Extra curricular programming within the school day that is facilitated by staff members help students with these opportunities.
Students have the opportunity to walk on the 1/6 miles track that was generously provided by donations from P.A.T. Students may walk during regular recess times and have their card marked by the Para pros on recess duty. Students learn to incorporate exercise into their daily routine and, hopefully, establish a healthy habit. The Para pros keep track of cards as they are filled and post the results as they accumulate.
Students in the fourth grade, under the supervision of their teachers, operate an internal post office. All students and staff in the building may write letters and "mail" them. The post office delivers the mail to the appropriate person in the building. Students increase their writing skills and learn the etiquette of writing letters. Fourth graders learn the responsibility of this important job.
Fifth grade students , under the supervision of Education First Credit Union, are selected to operate the student bank. This project is operated in conjunction with the Education First Credit Union. All students learn the habit and benefits of saving money. Fifth graders learn the responsibility of operating a small business.
Fourth grade students, under the supervision of Mrs. Daily, collect the re-cycled paper and plastic on a weekly basis. All students learn the responsibility of caring for the environment.
