Welcome to Mrs. Kubiak's 5th Grade Class

School Dogs

My name is Cyndi Kubiak.  I have been teaching on Grosse Ile since 1992. I began my career at Grosse Ile Schools teaching third grade at Meridian Elementary.  After a couple years I moved to the middle school and taught sixth grade math, science and social studies, as well as eighth grade English and Science. I decided to transfer back to the elementary to teach 5th grade at Parke Lane.  I am presently teaching fifth grade at Meridian.  I have a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in elementary education with an emphasis in math, science and social studies.  Go STATE!!!  I continued my education at Eastern Michigan University with a masters degree in middle school education.

5th grade is such a wonderful year for Grosse Ile students.  The hightlights would be our two field trips - Exchange City and Fifth Grade Camp.  Exchange City is a city that is run by the students.  During this unit students learn about government and economics.  We hold an election for mayor and judge as well as necessary laws that will be necessary for a well run city.  Every student is assigned a job that is needed in the city, for example, credit union teller and police officer.  Students earn money for their work and can spend it during the day at the many shops - like the sports shop and  technology shop.  Our second field trip is 5th grade camp.  We attend Camp Storer in Jackson, MI.  While at camp we focus on many science and social studies concepts as well as team building skills.   Another wonderful activity in 5th grade is Colonial Days.  This is done at Meridian and students are exposed to crafts, games, and food from the colonial time period.
