FOURTH GRADE INFORMAION

  WELCOME TO FOURTH GRADE

Fourth grade is a wonderful year at Meridian Elementary.  There is so much to learn and do, and we have a lot of fun!   I can't wait to teach your child about our country and the state of Michigan.  Science concepts like electricity and plants allow for great hands on learning activities.  We will read, read, read, and study many types of literature and information.  Descriptive and exciting words will characterize our writing.  Math will be integrated into our studies and focus on the basics that are the foundation of future math studies.

Homework will ALWAYS be 20 minutes of reading EVERY night.  Research indicates that students become better readers when they read independently every day.  If you help and encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each day they will become much better students.  My job will be to introduce them to types (or genres) of books that interest them, and help your children to find good books to read.

Math facts are another very important basic that all fourth graders need to know well when entering the school year.  Double digit multiplication and long division are BIG, BIG concepts in fourth grade.  Students who do not know their multiplication facts will have difficulty in these areas.  Please practice math facts in the summer!

Your child will be guided in the process of keeping an assignment book, and being responsible for homework assignments .  Our emphasis in fourth grade is respect  and responsibility.   I ask that you check and sign your child's assignment book each night.  Together we can work to begin instilling the responsiblily of completing homework assignments, studying for tests, and keeping track of required information.

I am always available to address parent concerns, your child's well being is my top priority.  Feel free to contact me by email (anytime) or phone (before and after school).  I love the beginning of each school year, the first day, new pencils, and new faces.
