Bienvenidos! Welcome!

Sra. McGee's Spanish Classroom

Learning a new language is fun as well as challenging.  Repetition is a key factor to learning a language.

¡Bienvenidos a todos!

Welcome to Mrs. McGee's Spanish class.  If you stop by our class, you might see us singing, chanting, speaking, dancing, writing, or playing in order to learn Spanish in a natural way.   You can count on this class to be a very active class with some quiet time for personal review and reflection.  One of the best ways to learn a world language is to use the language and practice often.

As a parent, you might be wondering how to best assist your child's learning.  The best way to help your child learn a world language is to support their learning at school and practice Spanish at home.  Be sure to review the weekly vocabulary reviews with your child and to ask them about what they are learning in the classroom.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the program or your child's progress.

About your teacher:

Sra. McGee has taught for 8 years. She is a native speaker. What makes teaching on Grosse Ile so special for Mrs. McGee is that she is a resident of Grosse Ile  and loves the community.  Señora M was born in Cuba. She is married and has three beautiful children,

Elementary World Language Program:

Welcome to the Grosse Ile Elementary World Language Program.  Elementary students in grades 3-5 receive 35 minutes of  Spanish instruction.  The goal at the elementary level is communication with an emphasis on natural language acquisition and preparation for subsequent levels of language instruction.  In our classes, students learn to listen, speak, read and write in Spanish through interactive activities and hands-on participation.

Learning a language is a lifetime endeavor.  We are fortunate at Grosse Ile to have the opportunity to begin this process earlier.  A special thank you to the PAT and the Grosse Ile Education Foundation whose generosity helps make this program possible.  ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Why Teach World Language at the Elementary Level?

There are many reasons that support the teaching of a world language at the elementary level. Below is just a brief list:

  • A child's brain is more receptive to linguistic development between birth and pre-adolescence for both his/her native language and additional languages.
  • Improved cognitive and academic development
  • Increased standardized test scores
  • Deepened understanding of first language
  • Better preparation for various careers
  • Greater understanding of other cultures
