 WELCOME to

Music at Meridian

Mrs. Barbara Conroy

Welcome to the Vocal Music web page for the Meridian Elementary School family. Students have music class every third day, rotating with the other Special subjects --  Physical Education and Art.  The rotation is:  Art, Music, Phys. Ed., Art, Music, Phys. Ed., etc.

The 2010-2011 school year has provided many opportunities for successful student achievement within the Grosse Ile elementary schools.  Meridian students include all students in Grades Three, Four, and Five.  Meridian parents, for your information, all of you are members of the Grosse Ile Music Boosters organization, now a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  All are encouraged to register your Kroger card with the Kroger web site to link it with the Grosse Ile Music Boosters.  This must be done annually.  The Grosse Ile Music Boosters will receive a donation from Kroger based upon your purchases.  The Kroger Community Rewards program is the simplest of fund-raisers, costing families nothing, but supporting your child's musical growth.  The instructions on how to join are available by clicking on Parental Information in the upper left-hand corner of this web page.

The purpose of the Grosse Ile Music Boosters is to support all Grosse Ile students and music teachers in our efforts to promote music education for your child, beginning with the youngest student in the Young 5s class at Parke Lane Elementary and continuing through Grade 12. It is a parental organization.  Monthly Music Booster meetings are held regularly, beginning on the Monday after Labor Day in September, and thereafter on the first Monday of each month through June.  Meetings are held at 7:00 PM in the GIHS Library. All parents of elementary music students are encouraged to attend these meetings and are most welcome to become participating members in Music Booster activities.  Music Booster activities include the Poinsettia and Cheesecake sales held during the month of November and the Butter Braids and Flower sales in the spring.

Throughout the years, the Grosse Ile Music Boosters have purchased many instruments and supplemental materials for all grade levels.  The children enjoy making music with these exotic and interesting instruments.  Their timbres are unique and add many colorful layers of sound to the music.

All grade level concerts were presented in the high school auditorium this year.  In December, the Fifth Grade classes presented 'An All-American Christmas' on Thursday evening, December 9th, at 7 PM.  This program included the premier performance of the Beginning Meridian Band, directed by Mr. Nathan Bearinger.  The Third Grade classes prepared GET HOPPIN' on April 14th and the Fourth Grade classes performed THE LAND OF A THOUSAND DANCES on May 5th.

Thank you for your support, Grosse Ile Music Booster parents!
