6th Grade Required Reading

Dear Parents,

The sixth grade students have begun a reading program using Accelerated Reader, which will last the entire school year.  Ms. Bringard and I want to encourage our students to appreciate good books, to practice reading skills, and to find pleasure in reading.

Although students will be given time in class to read, the majority of the novel should be completed at home.  Students will be evaluated upon completion of each book.  The list of books and the evaluation scale are available on the website.  Careful thought went into the selection of these titles which we feel is a good representation of highly recommended books appropriate for sixth grade students.

The students will check the Accelerated Reader books out of the media center.  After completing a book, the students will take a computer generated test on the content of the book in Ms. Bringard’s room.  The program will generate a new test for each student and keep accurate records on their performance.
