8th Grade Reading Counts

Dear Parents,

The eighth grade students have begun a reading program using Accelerated Reader (AR), which will last the entire school year.  Mrs. Buttson and I want to encourage our students to appreciate good books, to practice reading skills, and to find pleasure in reading.

The students will be given time in class to read and will be evaluated upon completion of each book.  The list of books and the evaluation scale are available at the website.  Careful thought went into the selection of these titles which we feel is a good representation of highly recommended books appropriate for eighth grade students.

The students will check the AR books out of the media center.  After completing a book, the students will take a computer generated test on the content of the book in Mrs. Buttson’s room.  The program will generate a new test for each student and keep accurate records on their performance.
