
Sabrina Gurney graduated with Dean's List Honors from Evangel University located in Springfield, Missouri, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science with a communications Broadcasting Degree and an Art Minor. After completing an internship at WJR Radio, she decided that face to face communication was a necessity for her! Gurney then had an opportunity to complete 200 hours of volunteer service at Children's Hospital in Detroit, creating art with hematology/oncology patients. It was then that she decided she wanted to work with children. Gurney obtained a Bachelor of Education Degree: Curriculum and Instruction, from Madonna University. She recently earned a Master of Arts with Dean's List Honors in Educational Leadership: Educational Administration, from Eastern Michigan University.
Gurney is certified to teach K-8 General Education, and is highly qualified to teach 6-8 Speech and 6-8 Art Education.
"Mrs. G." began her teaching career in Grosse Ile. She taught K-2 Elementary Art for two years at the East River Building. During this time, she was also the Gifted/Talented Coordinator for the district while teaching the 8th Grade GATE Class for one year, and enjoyed coaching the Middle School Cheerleaders.
Mrs. G. then moved to Meridian where she taught Elementary Art for 4 years. Seeking a career change, she taught afternoon Kindergarten for one year at Parke Lane Elementary. As that door closed, another opened in a Third Grade Classroom where she taught for 3 years. At that time, Gurney decided to take an extended maternity leave to stay home with her new triplets. Returning from leave, Mrs. G. was excited to find another artistic position available in Middle School Art.
Mrs. G. is teaching 6-8th grade art at the middle school and plans on being there a very long time!

Mrs. G. lives on the island and appreciates the Grosse Ile Community. She met her husband in college, married, and now they live on the island he grew up on. He stays busy with Fast Food Franchises and Hockey. Together, they have four children: 2 boys and 2 girls. Their pets include 2 dogs, a Leopard Gecko, lots of Fancy Mice, fish, and at any given time...frogs and snakes. Gurney's interests include spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, scrapbooking, singing, and interior decorating. Bucket List: See the 7 Wonders of the World!
