Student Leadership State Conference

Why It’s Important to Attend STUCO STATES ’26

Attending States ’26: Mission Possible isn’t just a trip — it’s an opportunity for leadership growth, school pride, and real-world experience that students can’t get anywhere else.

1. Leadership Training You Can’t Get in School

At States, students participate in hands-on workshops led by experts in leadership, communication, teamwork, event planning, and community service. These sessions build confidence and teach practical skills that translate instantly back into GIHS events.

2. Network With Other Schools Across Michigan

Students meet and collaborate with hundreds of other Student Council members, sharing ideas, learning new traditions, and discovering creative ways to improve our own school culture.

3. Bring Back Fresh Ideas for Events & Spirit

Every year, our StuCo returns with new:

  • Fundraising ideas

  • Spirit Week themes

  • Charity Week activities

  • School culture initiatives

  • Ways to build student engagement
Attending states directly improves the student experience at GIHS.

4. Strengthens Our Student Council Team

The trip helps members:

  • Build trust

  • Improve teamwork

  • Strengthen communication

  • Learn each other’s strengths
This makes planning big events—Homecoming, Charity Week, Winter Games, etc.—run smoother and more efficiently.

5. It’s a Chance to Represent GIHS With Pride

Students get to show what makes Grosse Ile special while learning how other schools operate. It’s a meaningful honor to represent our community at a statewide level.

6. It Builds Real-World Skills Colleges & Employers Care About

Attending States helps students develop:

  • Public speaking

  • Problem solving

  • Project management

  • Professional communication

  • Collaboration
These are skills that stand out on college applications and resumes.

7. It’s Inspiring, Motivating, and FUN

From keynote speakers to competitions to bonding moments with teammates, States is always one of the most memorable experiences of the entire year.

Meet Grosse Ile High School Student Council Executive Board

Julia

President

Hi! I am Julia Noureddine. I am a senior, and I currently serve as the Executive Board President of Student Council. In this role, I help lead our meetings, support our student body, and bring our council’s ideas and events to life. I work hard to make our group a welcoming, collaborative space where everyone feels comfortable sharing their voice. Outside of student council, I play basketball, run track, and serve as the Vice President of the Girl Up Club. With plans to go into medicine, I try to lead with kindness, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on our school community.

Miah

Vice President

My name is Miah Khaled and I am a senior at GIHS, I am a dancer of 16 years at GIAD, I plan on going into medicine, and I have been on student council for the last 4 years. I love how much our student council collectively comes up with ways to involve not just the students, but the community as well. My joy that comes out of this council is how many people enjoy what we do. I cannot wait to further our plans and involve our community even more!

The Executive Board leads the direction of Student Council by overseeing committees, supporting members, and ensuring that all events and initiatives reflect the values of Grosse Ile High School.

These student leaders work together to build school spirit, strengthen community connections, and create meaningful experiences for the student body.

Diana Baydoun

My name is Diana Baydoun and I am the Secretary of the Executive Board, I manage attendance at meetings and events, record meeting minutes, and stay in close communication with class secretaries and Student Council members. I enjoy being part of the planning process and turning ideas into events that bring our school together. Being part of the Student Council has helped me grow not only as a leader, but as a person. It's taught me patience, teamwork, and the importance of listening to others. Outside of meetings, I like being organized, helping others when I can, and strive to improve myself every day.
