High School Juniors and Seniors Lead the Way as Counselors at 5th Grade Camp

This week, our 5th grade students are heading to 5th Grade Camp, where they will engage in outdoor activities, team-building exercises, and create unforgettable memories. However, none of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of our high school juniors and seniors, who have been selected to serve as camp counselors.

The Role of High School Counselors

A select group of juniors and seniors are chosen each year to help guide and mentor the 5th graders during their time at camp. These student counselors are responsible for leading small groups, facilitating activities, and providing support to ensure that the younger students feel welcome and engaged throughout the experience.

The counselors will work together to ensure the camp runs smoothly, providing a positive and safe environment where the 5th graders can learn, grow, and have fun. Through this process, our high school students develop crucial leadership skills, gain teamwork experience, and get a chance to serve as role models to younger peers.

Why Being a Counselor Matters

Serving as a camp counselor offers our high school students the opportunity to develop invaluable skills that will benefit them both personally and professionally. The benefits of being a counselor include:

  • Leadership Experience: Students gain hands-on experience in leadership, taking charge of groups and activities while mentoring younger students.

  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Counselors work closely together, learning how to effectively communicate, solve problems, and collaborate in a team environment.

  • Mentorship: By guiding 5th graders through their camp experience, counselors have the opportunity to serve as positive role models and offer mentorship to younger students.

  • Resume & College Applications: Serving as a counselor is a great way to demonstrate responsibility, initiative, and leadership skills, making it a valuable addition to resumes and college applications.

Looking Ahead: More Opportunities for Leadership

While this year’s camp is underway, we encourage all juniors and seniors to keep an eye out for future leadership opportunities. Serving as a camp counselor is just one of the many ways high school students can gain experience and make a meaningful impact in their community.

Thank You to Our Supportive Community

A big thank you to the students, parents, and staff for supporting this fantastic tradition. We are excited to see how this year’s 5th Grade Camp will inspire both our 5th graders and our high school counselors as they work together to make this experience unforgettable.
