This November, Grosse Ile High School celebrated a season of gratitude through kindness, creativity, and community collaboration. Student Council, GIPAT, parent volunteers, teachers, students, and local businesses all played a role in making the month meaningful. Together, we turned appreciation into action and brought smiles and connection to our school halls.

🄧 Sweet as Pie Grams — Student Council Fundraiser & Kindness Project

Student Council kicked off the month with ā€œSweet as Pie Grams,ā€ a delicious idea brought forward by sophomore member Emma Batz. Students and staff could purchase mini pies delivered during class with personal notes of appreciation. This fundraiser not only raised money for future Student Council initiatives — it also spread kindness one pie at a time.

The pies were baked by Emma’s mother’s bakery, Carrie Bakz, whose support helped make the event a huge success.
Thank you, Carrie Bakz, for sharing your treats and your heart with GIHS!

āœļø Thank You Cards — Student Appreciation for Staff

Student Council also organized thank-you card tables where students could write notes to teachers and school staff. The tables quickly filled with students expressing gratitude, many writing heartfelt letters to coaches, secretaries, custodians, teachers, paras, and more.
This simple activity reminded everyone that appreciation doesn’t require grand gestures — just genuine words.

🦃 GIPAT Turkey Hunt — With Student Council Assistance

Next, GIPAT hosted a Staff Turkey Hunt, hiding three turkeys and one turkey leg throughout the building for staff to find and re-hide. Student Council supported the event behind the scenes by helping hide the items at the start and making sure they stayed in play if students tried to move or take them.
The hunt brought out playful competition, laughter, and holiday spirit among staff — a true community win made possible by GIPAT’s creativity and Student Council’s assistance.

šŸ¦† Turkey Ducks for Students — Thanks to Parent Volunteers

To include students in the excitement, three parent volunteers — Wendy Kearney, Rita Calcut, and Kathryn Borg — hid 300 tiny turkey ducks around the school. Students searched for them during passing time, and those who found one earned a prize during 5th hour. Student Council helped hand out prizes and candy, making sure everyone could participate — even if they never found a duck.

The joy on students’ faces showed that high schoolers still love to play, explore, and be a kid at heart.

A School that Gives Thanks Together

November at GIHS was a celebration of teamwork. Student Council led student-focused gratitude activities, GIPAT boosted staff morale with creative fun, and parent volunteers helped bring excitement to the whole building. Add in the support of students, teachers, and local businesses, and we created a month full of connection and appreciation.

We also want to extend a thank you to the many other GIHS clubs and student groups who continue to serve and support our community throughout the year. Your creativity, service, and dedication help make Red Devil Pride shine beyond the month of November.

Thank you to every Red Devil who participated, supported, volunteered, baked, wrote, searched, celebrated, and shared smiles.
Together, we made this a November to remember.
