Students in the Environmental Science class recently had the opportunity to explore the Bruce Jones Preserve on Grosse Ile, a hidden gem located at the corner of Bridge Road and Meridian Road.
The preserve, purchased and maintained by the Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy (GINLC), showcases all of Michigan's native tree species in one compact location. This unique outdoor classroom allowed students to observe firsthand the important role native trees play in supporting local ecosystems.
During their visit, students learned how these trees provide food, shelter, and habitat for a wide variety of wildlife while contributing to the health and biodiversity of the island. The experience offered a valuable connection between classroom learning and the natural environment right in our community.
The Environmental Science class left with a greater appreciation for the importance of conservation efforts and the remarkable natural resources available on Grosse Ile.
