Exciting things are happening in Dr. Roscoe’s class! Students now have a retention pond right on campus where they can get hands-on experience studying benthic macroinvertebrates, small organisms that live at the bottom of aquatic environments.
Why are these tiny creatures important? Benthic macroinvertebrates can serve as indicators of water quality, giving students valuable insight into the health of the ecosystems around them.
And the learning doesn’t stop on campus! This semester, students will visit eight different locations throughout Grosse Ile to collect observations and compare what they find.
Stay tuned as our students get their hands dirty, explore local waterways, and discover what these small bottom-dwellers can tell us about the health of our island!
