These are Santa’s elves 🎄✈️
About 60 Detroit children and their families experienced the magic of Santa’s Fantasy Flight to the North Pole, an incredible event supporting critically ill children and their families. The group boarded a special Delta “fantasy flight” at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, where the plane taxied the runway before arriving at the airport hotel — transformed for the day into the North Pole.
Inside, the children were greeted with presents, food, Santa himself — and our NHS students, who proudly served as Santa’s elves, spreading joy, smiles, and holiday magic throughout the experience 🎅🎁

Red Devil Spotlight: Engineering with Heart!
Seven GIHS students volunteered their time this past weekend at Divine Child to help build electronic toys making them accessible for children with special needs.
A huge shoutout to these incredible students:
Logan Parker
Sophia Sebastian
Parker Conz
Devon Critchfield
Ethan Nykiel
Joey Sosnowski
Agni Kohair
They worked hard, problem-solved, and showed what it means to lead with service. We’re so proud of you!
There were even more toys than one session could handle — so our Engineering Foundations class will be finishing the work this week in class.
Special thanks to Divine Child’s fundraising efforts for purchasing the toys. We hope to make this meaningful project a regular part of our year and a potential focus for future Red Devil fundraising and service initiatives.

Field Trip Excitement!
Yesterday, Dr. Roscoe's Environmental Science class had an incredible day at the Bruce Jones Nature Preserve! Our students immersed themselves in local biodiversity and learned to identify 20 different species of native trees with guidance from Mr. Doug Thiel and Dr. Paul Gloor from the Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy.
As they explored the preserve, students observed wetlands, riparian zones, and the habitats of returning wildlife like beavers and otters. This hands-on experience reinforced our classroom discussions on habitat restoration and the significance of native species on our Island Home.
Fun fact: The Bruce Jones Preserve, named after GINLC founder Dr. Bruce Jones, spans 5.9 upland acres and 9.9 acres of off-shore property along the Detroit River. Its rich ecosystems support diverse wildlife, including amphibians, birds, fish, and reptiles, as well as ancient native trees over 200 years old!
What an amazing way to connect with nature! 🌳✨ #EnvironmentalScience #FieldTrip #Biodiversity #NaturePreserve #LearningOutside
